  • The entrance to Game On State is easy to miss, but there's a lot happening inside!
  • There are loads of candy options in the front of the arcade
  • There's a nice selection of arcade games and pinball machines
  • The pinball machines are mostly more modern titles, though there are a few classic Gottlieb tables toward the back
  • Classic tables include Cactus Jack's, Buck Rogers, and Class of 1812, which unfortunately was out of order during my visit.
  • A section in the back offers even more options including air hockey
  • It's a lot more fun to play retro arcade games when you don't have to keep putting in quarters!
  • There are a lot of classics from the golden age of arcades like Donkey Kong and Ms. Pac Man
  • In a time when there seems to be a lack of physical places where people can just hang out and socialize, a retro arcade is always a fun find!

Game On State: Retro Fun With a Purpose in Media, PA

If you’re strolling down State Street in Media, PA, and craving something unique, nostalgic, and refreshingly inclusive, look no further than Game On State. Tucked among restaurants and shops, this retro arcade offers more than just classic games—it delivers a joyful, purpose-driven experience for all ages.

From the moment you walk in, Game On State greets you with infectious energy. There were tons of kids inside, and it was nice to see younger folks enjoying the same games I loved when I was their age. The front of the arcade features an old-fashioned jukebox, shelves of colorful candy, and fun gifts like candy bouquets, Delco T-shirts, and toys—many of which are assembled by individuals with special needs. It’s not just a game room; it’s a local treasure trove packed with heart and personality.

Further inside, you’ll find the arcade floor buzzing with activity. Rows of pinball machines, car racing games, skee ball lanes, and even VR experiences keep the action going. While the layout can feel a bit tight in spots—like near the skee ball area—it’s impressive how much they’ve fit into the space. And trust me, the fun far outweighs the occasional tight squeeze.

But what truly sets Game On State apart is its mission. Operated by Aneway For Purpose, a nonprofit that provides employment opportunities for neurodiverse individuals, the arcade is more than just entertainment. In fact, 25% of the staff are individuals with disabilities, proving that meaningful work and good fun can go hand in hand. They also operate Print On State inside the arcade, designing and printing apparel while offering hands-on job training.

Whether you’re a longtime gamer revisiting retro classics like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and NBA Jam, or just looking to kill some time on a Friday afternoon, it’s easy to lose yourself in the games and the good vibes. The price is a flat hourly fee too, so you don’t have to worry about constantly having to feed the games quarters if your skills are a bit rusty. I did think the fee was a bit on the steep side compared to similar locations, for what it’s worth.

With friendly staff, clean facilities, and a powerful mission at its core, Game On State is a shining example of how fun, inclusion, and community can thrive under one roof.
