    Historic Eldora Florida

In 1800 Ole Eldora was a settlement named after 2 sisters  “Ellen and Dora Pitzer” The sisters became successful from their location, close to the waterway. This put Eldora on the water route for steam ships from Central Florida to So. Florida.  This was the only transit at this time…roadways and trains did not exist.  Eldora’s export of the area thrived from the Central Florida’s citrus.

Hard times hit Eldora in late 1890’s, three sever freezes  ruined their citrus crops, they never recovered. The timing was bad as in their turmoil and loss the California Gold Rush hit, Floridians left in a mass exodus, leaving Eldora behind in ruins.

Eldora’s State House can be visited @ Canaveral National Seashore FL.

What a great, nostalgic, history gem.  Explore one great stop off route 1.
