This significant monument in Riverside Park near New Smyrna Beach pays homage to brave veterans who served our country throughout history. Surrounding the main structure are individual plaques laid on the ground dedicated to the different divisions, branches, and companies that helped secure our freedom. The plaques featured on the sides of the main monument display the names of local heroes who gave everything to their comrades in pursuit of freedom. One such plaque is dedicated to U.S. Army PFC Emory L. Bennett, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Nearby is another memorial dedicated to local Vietnam Veterans lost during the war. Riverside Park has playgrounds, docks for fishing, biking paths, and even a common area for the occasional live music concert. A great gathering place for tourists and the local community alike.
