The famous Watering Hole of Ernest Hemingway founded on the very day prohibition was repealed December 1st 1933. Fearless rum runner, bootlegger Joe “Josey” Russell and his best friend and fishing buddy Hemingway spent many a day spouting tales and drinking rum here. When one considers a few certainties about the notorious word master a) he was passionate about his libations b) he was a true man’s man and c) he was loyal to the people and places he favored.
Sloppy joes is a must stop for Key West visitors and also a favorite place for locals year-round with live entertainment, libations and an American and Cuban influenced menu with a variety to serve and satisfy.
Sloppy Joes was also the home of the recent 41st annual Hemingway look alike contest.
