The White Birch Exchange - Calais, Maine
The White Birch Exchange is right on Main Street (US Route 1), Calais. Owned by Bruce Novac, this beautiful store has treasures for everyone. Bruce’s passion is fixing up items and showing people how to repurpose things they can be proud of, even if they don’t have money to spare. He also cares about being green and offering affordable items, so he combined his creative nature with his retail sales knowledge and decided to open a store. He used small branches and rocks as displays, painted and fixed the store with a $5,000 budget, added stock from the things he already owned that were resaleable, and started looking for used items to resell. He sells 80% of the products under $40. He now combs the back rooms of auction houses and thrift stores locally, looking for items that can be fixed up and resold as his own inventory.
The White Birch Exchange is a must-see along route 1. An artistic dream, has an ever-changing inventory and every thing has a story.
