Barbara's International School of Dance - Calais, Maine
For over 50 years, Barbara’s International School of Dance has been a cornerstone of Washington County. Owned and operated by Barbara Lara, this family-friendly place has offered all types of formal and informal dance lessons, acrobatics, and fun.
Lara, has taught four generations of dancers in some families and is a community treasure. Her classes are known both locally as well as across the border in Canada, with some dancers traveling hours to attend. Her twice a year dance recitals are packed with families and friends and often are standing-room only.
Other than the recitals, the biggest event of the year is her Halloween party, complete with a basement transformed into a haunted house (both G and PG-rated for so even the smallest dancers will enjoy themselves).
From her parade floats to her Annual Santa’s Helper Program Show where proceeds go towards buying toys for local kids, Ms. Barbara has an amazing amount of energy and a huge heart. We are so lucky to have her!
