Legendary Joe's Stone Crab - Miami Beach

For more than a hundred years no visit to Miami would be complete without stopping in Joe’s Stone Crab.

Anyone well known who came to Miami Beach would stop at Joe’s: Will Rogers, Amelia Earhart, Gloria Swanson, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, J. Edger Hoover, Al Capone, and today, Barbara Streisand, Tom Cruise, Bill Murray, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, and 19 U.S. Presidents.

When Joe’s Stone Crab opened its door to the public for the first time in 1920 they didn’t serve stone crabs at all, they served snapper, pompano, mackerel and some meat dishes, but stone crabs wouldn’t make an appearance on their menu until later in 1921.

Only the oversized claws are harvested.  This highly nutritive resembles lobster in appearance and flavor while it is usually boiled and served in the shell with a mayonnaise-mustard sauce.

    1. Stone crab dinner for two starts at $169, while larger claws set you back $360.

Joe’s is the biggest buyer of Florida stone crab claws and plays a significant role in the industry.

Stone crab season has a short harvest, running from October 15th through May 1st.

Joe’s is the highest-grossing independent restaurant in the United States and grossed $38.4 million in 2019.

This legendary family-owned and operated business is now and it’s fourth generation.

With its leather booths, the hand-carved mahogany bar, terraza floors throughout with brass and dark woods, you can feel the history here and of course the service is outstanding.
