The Shoe Tree

This maple tree has become a tourist must-see and it’s located right on Route 1! If you are lucky enough to travel through Littleton, Maine, before all the trees have filled with leaves, you will see this unique piece of artwork by local Virgil Farrar. What started out as a whimsical project for his grandkids, became a tourist stop for anyone traveling along Route 1. With over 150 pairs of shoes attached, the bottom branches even need to be propped up with the weight.

It’s a sight to behold! Well done, Mr. Farrar.
