The Scenic Theatre, later renamed the E.M. Loew’s Capitol Theatre, originally opened in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on June 7, 1926. The inaugural production at the 1,500 seat theater was “The Alarm Clock,” presented by The Hall Stock Company. In the early 1930s, control of the State Theatre was transferred to the E.M. Loew’s chain. Significant upgrades were made, including advanced sound systems installation to improve the audio-visual experience..

In 1948, the theatre underwent a comprehensive renovation led by the architectural firm William Riseman Associates. They then rebranded it as E.M. Loew’s Center Theatre, marking a new chapter in its history. However, as the 1950s progressed, the theatre experienced a decline, culminating in its closure.

In the mid-1950s, the theatre was demolished to make way for a parking lot for Park and Shop Pawtucket, Inc., marking the conclusion of its rich history. The parking lot was later replaced by an office building, which still stands today.
