Then and Now - The Globe Theatre - Pawtucket, Rhode Island

The Globe Theatre, located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, had its doors open prior to 1913. It primarily featured vaudeville acts and silent films. At one point, it was under the ownership of Thomas Duffy, who also possessed the nearby Pastime Theatre, where he screened motion pictures.

During World War I, the Globe showcased German war films produced by the New Yorker Staats-Zeitung, a weekly German-language newspaper that first emerged in the 1930s.

In the mid-1920s, the management of The Globe made the decision to cease operations. They never transitioned to screening motion pictures with sound, commonly referred to as “talkies.” Eventually, the building was demolished, and the Blackstone Valley Visitors Center now stands in its place. Within this center, there is a cinema with seating for 90 people.
