We found a magical slice of paradise just south of Miami in Homestead called Blue Lagoon Farms.
It’s what they call in Florida an Agratourism Destination. They have turned a family-owned 5 acre palm tree nursery, honey bee farm and underground coral rock spring into a lagoon where they are pumping 100,000 gallons of crystal clear water daily into a man-made swimming hole, with a 75 ft waterfall.
It’s operated by husband and wife team Alfredo and Tania Rohaidy, where they took their private residence and turned it into this rustic retreat featuring thatched huts, A-frame cabins, farm animals like birds, cows, chickens, pigs, goats and horses roaming in a fenced area for the children and iguanas are everywhere.
There are hot tubs, hammocks and a deck for anyone brave enough to jump into the the deep end of the lagoon.
Just arrive in your bathing suit and water shoes, and you can bring a plastic cooler but no glass.
There are an assortment of floaties for sale around $10 and they quickly inflate them for you if you left yours at home.
There are also a number of food trucks available and parking is free.
Open daily and admission is $20 during the week and $25 per person on the weekends.
