Video Postcard from the Brevard Zoo
Opened in 1994, the Brevard Zoo has become one of the most popular destinations for visitors to the Florida Space Coast. Located on 50 acres, the zoo is divided into 4 themed loops; Africa, Australia, Florida, and the Rainforest. Feeding and other interactive activities take place throughout the day. There is an emphasis on wildlife conservation and habitat preservation throughout the Zoo on their interpretive signage.
We started our visit with a bike ride through the Linear Park that conveniently connects to the Zoo parking area. More here: www.alltrails.com/trail/us/florida/brevard-zoo-linear-park-trail
Except for a few things like “Armadillo”, there was surprisingly little Spanish signage for a state with such a large Spanish-speaking population. About 10% of the County identifies as Hispanic. This may be changing, as the Zoo is currently looking to hire a Community Engagement professional who is fluent in Spanish.
At $25 for adult admission and $15 for children, a visit to the Zoo is a stretch for those of modest means. Add to that the cost of a meal or a ride on the zipline, and the total quickly becomes prohibitive. There were few black or brown faces in the crowd during our visit.
