Bowlero, a Company on a Roll in Milford, CT
I keep noticing Bowleros along Route One. I love a good play on words, and that’s what got my attention. I’m not much of a bowler, really. Until I did a little digging after my visit to their Milford location, I didn’t realize the scope of their franchise and how they brought former arch-rivals AMF and Brunswick together. It has all transpired in a fairly short time frame, too. Tom Shannon opened Bowlmor, an upscale alley in Manhattan, in 1997. Today, his company operates hundreds of locations with a total of 12,000 lanes. On top of that, they purchased the Professional Bowlers Association in 2019, allowing them to re-energize the sport in their venues.
I visited on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was hopping, even while COVID restrictions were in place in Connecticut. I loved the family atmosphere, the retro vibe, the soundtrack that was fun, but not overwhelming, and the attention to detail throughout the venue. I look forward to going to other locations, and maybe even getting my game together!
